In a touching demonstration of corporate social responsibility, The Gables Shopping Center has spearheaded a winter clothing drive, bringing much-needed warmth and comfort to the children of Selulasandla Vashti AME Children’s Village.
The campaign, titled “At The Gables We Care,” has united the community in an outpouring of generosity to support vulnerable children.
A Community United for a Cause
As the cold winter months approached, The Gables Shopping Center called upon the local community to donate warm clothing for the children of Selulasandla Vashti AME Children’s Village. The Village, established in 2002 by the African Methodist Episcopal Church, is home to 22 children who have faced various hardships.
It provides a nurturing and supportive environment, but the needs of the children often go beyond the resources available.
The response to the campaign was overwhelming. In just a short period, six large bags filled with winter clothing were donated, along with additional contributions in the form of tracksuits from The Gables itself.
“We were absolutely amazed by the generosity of our community,” said Maxwell Mtshali, Marketing Officer at The Gables Shopping Center. “Our collection boxes were filled with love and kindness. The response far exceeded our expectations, and it’s clear that our community really cares about these children.”
Bringing Warmth and Joy to the Children
The donations were formally handed over during an event at Thembelihle in Mbabane, where representatives from The Gables Shopping Center, along with some board members of Selulasandla Vashti AME Children’s Village, gathered to witness the impact of their collective efforts. In addition to the warm clothing, the children were treated to snacks and games, creating a festive atmosphere.
Maxwell Mtshali, speaking at the handover, shared the heartwarming scene: “The joy and gratitude on the children’s faces was truly moving. It wasn’t just about the clothes—it was about letting these children know that they are cared for and supported by the community.”
The Importance of Corporate Social Responsibility
This winter clothing drive is part of The Gables Shopping Center’s broader corporate social responsibility initiative. Under the “At The Gables We Care” campaign, the center is committed to making a positive impact on the local community through various charitable efforts.
“Our goal is not just to be a shopping center, but a community partner,” Mtshali explained. “This campaign is a reflection of our commitment to helping those in need. We believe that businesses have a responsibility to give back, and we will continue to organize initiatives that support local communities and promote sustainable practices.”
Looking Ahead: Future Initiatives
With the success of the winter warm-up campaign, The Gables Shopping Center is already planning future initiatives aimed at supporting the local community. The center has pledged to continue its efforts in aiding vulnerable groups and fostering a culture of care and compassion.
“This campaign has shown us the power of collective action,” Mtshali said. “We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed, and we look forward to organizing more initiatives that uplift our community.”
The Gables Shopping Center has demonstrated that corporate leadership goes beyond the business world. Through meaningful action, they have helped ensure that the children of Selulasandla Vashti AME Children’s Village stay warm and, more importantly, feel the warmth of a caring community.
