“A facility near me was offering training in various trades, and I was drawn to leather work because of my experience with sewing,” Dumsile recalls. “It was a perfect match for my skills and gave me a chance to do something unique.”

In 2016, she launched Melane Leather, a brand that specializes in high-quality leather accessories, ranging from handbags to belts and wallets. The decision to switch from fashion design to leatherwork was a turning point in her career, offering her more creative freedom and flexibility.

In 2021, she participated in the Export Readiness Training offered by the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA). “EIPA played a vital role in equipping me with the knowledge I needed to grow my business,” she says. “I attended the training at the Eswatini International Trade Fair (EITF), and in 2024, I had the opportunity to exhibit in Taipei, Taiwan.”

This international exposure was a game-changer for Melane Leather. The Taipei exhibition allowed Dumsile to meet buyers from around the world, opening up new possibilities for her brand. It also boosted her confidence as a businesswoman, reinforcing the value of her products in the global market.

“A noteworthy achievement for me was meeting buyers from Malaysia, who invited me to exhibit in their country in 2025,” Dumsile shares with excitement. “This invitation is a significant milestone, and I am actively seeking funding to make this dream a reality.”

Winning Awards and Gaining Recognition

Another highlight in Dumsile’s journey was winning the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the handicraft category in 2023. This recognition was a testament to her hard work and dedication to her craft.

The award gave her business a boost, motivating her to push even harder and continue expanding Melane Leather both locally and internationally.

“Winning the award was a huge achievement for me,” she says. “It reaffirmed that I was on the right path and gave me the confidence to scale up my business.”
